I requested Lama Chris to kindly share a little background for the two year cycle of transmissions and meditative practices that will be offered and of course, Lama la offered a brief but appropriate reminder regarding the importance of his teacher…
Dilgo Khyentse
I first met Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche in 1976. I was 19 years old at the time. He had been invited to Seattle by Jigdal Dagchen Rinpoche, and came with an entourage. Dagchen Rinpoche had requested a number of private transmissions from him, and he invited me to be present and participate in the rituals as well as the conversations in between. One of the transmissions requested was a three-day empowerment into Hevajra, one of the Great Empowerments (dbang chen). It was during a break in the rituals that Dagchen Rinpoche brought forth his personal copy of the Dege Edition of the Nyingma Gyubum, and there was some discussion of the importance of preserving the Nyingma Gyubum. I was impressed by this conversation, and I remember asking Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche: “Nga Nyingma Gyubum kyi Gyude Yinji Ke du Gyur Na Choge Rebee?” Which means: “If I translated the Tantras in the Nyingma Gyubum into English will that be all right?” He said: “Chogi Re! Chogi Re!” Which means: “It’s all right! It’s all right!” Then he paused for a minute, as if in thought, then said: “Gyur zhu,” which means: “Please translate them.”
When I met Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche in Kathmandu, in 1981, he was very excited to tell me that the mTshams Bag Manuscript of the Nyingma Gyubum would soon be coming out. He encouraged me to use this one.
In my last interview with Dezhung Rinpoche, in 1986, just before he left Seattle to work on his monastery in Kathmandu, I asked him directly what I should do, now that he was leaving. He recommended I remember my commitment to Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and devote myself to a study of the Great Perfection.
I set out to do that immediately, leaving for Calgary in 1986, where I did my Masters Thesis on one of the Root Tantras of the Great Perfection, Clear Meaning. Through many years and many changes in my life I kept this commitment in my heart, and when my circumstances allowed I have devoted all of my energy to this effort to translate the Tantras of the Great Perfection.

Transmissions of the Dzogchen Great Perfection Tantras are already the most extraordinarily powerful and compassionate means to connect practitioners to the nature of mind, but to receive these transmissions and instructions directly from the translator and deeply realized practitioner I believe you will find truly lives-altering.
The Dzogchen Foundations course and subsequent two year practitioner classes are offered to provide a much-needed corrective to the many misconceptions and wrong views being attributed to Dzogchen and there are unfortunately many. Without guidance from experienced practitioners yogis it would be easy to fall into extreme views. Having said this. these instructions are not a scholastic study, but rather meditative and experiential pointing out instructions offered by a variety of qualified Lamas who have agreed to assist practitioners along their respective journeys. The practices offered are direct and simple, and all are warmly welcomed.
